Alanya Mutfak Kültür Evi – History Meets Local Flavour

This one is a real treat. Located in the Hisariçi neighbourhood inside Alanya Castle, the Culinary Culture House (Alanya Mutfak Kültürü Evi) is dedicated to preserving the local flavours of Alanya and its surroundings and introducing them to wider audiences and future generations. Housed in a faithfully restored listed building inside the castle walls, the museum is a space where traditional Alanya culinary culture is both showcased and actively kept alive. On the ground floor, visitors can watch local recipes being prepared from start to finish and taste the dishes fresh — while the upper floor is arranged as an exhibition space where traditional Alanya kitchen culture is presented hands-on. The restoration project has won multiple awards too — it received the Continuity Prize at the Historic Cities Union’s 2018 Cultural Heritage Conservation competition, and took third place at the 6th Mediterranean Municipalities Project Competition. It’s easily one of the most enjoyable and delicious stops on any Alanya cultural tour.

FAQ

How do I get to the Alanya Culinary Culture House?

The Culinary Culture House is easy to find — it's located at Hisariçi Mahallesi, Kale Caddesi No. 27, inside the historic Alanya Castle walls. If you write 'Alanya Mutfak Kültür Evi' to your GPS, it will pop right up. You can get there on foot: head up through the castle gate from the centre of Alanya and follow Kale Caddesi, but keep in mind that its a walk up the hill. You can come by car directly up to the front door, there are places to park along the road. The Alanya cable car (teleferik) also gets you on top of the hill, from where its a comfortable walking distance to the house.

Is the Mutfak Kültür Evi a museum or a restaurant?

It's genuinely both — and that's what makes it special. Visitors can explore a small exhibition on Alanya's food culture and the kitchen tools used through the ages, while also getting the chance to taste authentic local dishes at very affordable prices. Think of it as a living food museum: you learn about traditional Alanya cuisine upstairs, and you can actually eat it downstairs.

Do I need to book in advance or pay an entrance fee?

There is no entrance fee — the Culinary Culture House is run by Alanya Municipality and is open to all visitors. However, groups are advised to contact the venue ahead of time to arrange a visit. It's also worth noting that cash payments are not accepted, so bring a card. For individuals and families, just turn up — it's one of the most relaxed and welcoming cultural stops in Alanya.
