Festivals & Events in Alanya – Something’s Always Happening
One of the best things about Alanya is that it never really stops. While many Mediterranean destinations slow down to a quiet hum outside of peak summer, Alanya keeps its calendar busy from January through December. Whether you’re visiting in the height of July or passing through in the quieter months of spring or autumn, there’s a good chance something interesting is happening in the city — a beach concert, a cultural festival, an international sports competition, or a local celebration that gives you a genuine glimpse into Turkish life on the southern coast.
This variety is one of the reasons Alanya has grown into one of the most visited destinations on the Turkish Riviera. It’s not just a beach resort — it’s a living, active city with a year-round community, a strong cultural identity, and a growing reputation as a host for major international events. If you time your visit right, a festival or event can turn a great holiday into an unforgettable one.

What Kind of Events Can You Find in Alanya?
Alanya’s event scene covers a surprisingly wide range of interests. Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect throughout the year:
🏃 Sports & Competition Events
Alanya has quietly become one of Turkey’s top destinations for international sports tourism. The city regularly hosts world-class athletics competitions, triathlon events, marathon races, and beach sports tournaments. The flat coastal roads, warm climate, and well-organised infrastructure make it a favourite location for European and global sports federations. If you’re an active traveller or a sports fan, you’ll find Alanya punches well above its weight.
🎵 Music & Entertainment
Open-air concerts are a staple of the Alanya summer, with performances ranging from Turkish pop and folk music to international acts. The Alanya seafront and the area around Damlataş Beach regularly host large free concerts, particularly around national holidays and the peak summer months. The atmosphere at these events — warm evenings, sea breeze, thousands of people gathered on the promenade — is something genuinely special.
🎭 Culture & Arts
The Alanya Culture and Arts Festival is one of the highlights of the cultural calendar, bringing theatre performances, art exhibitions, folk dance shows, and traditional craft displays to the city. Events like these offer visitors a real connection to Turkish and Anatolian culture beyond the typical tourist experience. The historic Alanya Castle and the old harbour area provide stunning backdrops for outdoor cultural events.
🌊 Beach & Seasonal Festivals
Summer in Alanya comes with its own rhythm of beach parties, seasonal festivals, and open-air celebrations. From international beach volleyball tournaments to DJ events along Cleopatra Beach, there’s an energy to the summer season that’s hard to match anywhere else on the Mediterranean coast.
🕌 National Holidays & Local Celebrations
Turkish national holidays — including Republic Day in October, Victory Day in August, and Eid celebrations — are marked with public events, concerts, and community gatherings across the city. These are among the most authentic experiences you can have as a visitor, and almost all of them are completely free to attend.
The Main Annual Events in Alanya
Alanya International Triathlon & Athletics Competitions
Alanya has become a fixture on the international triathlon and athletics circuit, hosting World Athletics events and European Triathlon Cup competitions that draw elite athletes from across the globe. These events typically take place in spring and autumn when the climate is ideal for endurance sport. Even if you’re not competing, watching world-class athletes race along the Alanya coastline is a spectacular experience — and spectator entry is free.
Alanya Culture & Arts Festival
Held annually, this multi-day festival celebrates Turkish and international arts through theatre, music, dance, and visual arts. Performances take place across various venues in the city, including open-air stages with views of the Mediterranean. It’s one of the best events for visitors who want to experience the cultural depth of Alanya beyond its beaches and boat trips.
Alanya International Jazz Days
Held each autumn, the Alanya International Jazz Days brings together talented musicians from Turkey and abroad for a series of open-air performances in the Alanya Harbour. The festival has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that contrasts nicely with the buzz of the late summer season, and the concerts are free to attend. If you’re visiting Alanya in autumn, it’s well worth checking whether Jazz Days falls during your stay.
Alanya Marathon & Running Events
The Alanya Marathon attracts thousands of runners from Turkey and abroad every year, with routes that take participants through some of the most scenic parts of the city. Whether you’re running or just cheering from the sidelines, it’s a high-energy day out with a fantastic atmosphere along the seafront.
Open-Air Concerts on the Alanya Seafront
Throughout the summer — and especially around major national holidays — the Alanya municipality organises large free concerts on the beachfront promenade. These events regularly draw tens of thousands of people and feature some of Turkey’s most popular performers. No tickets, no queues — just show up and enjoy.
Christmas & New Year Celebrations
Alanya celebrates the transition into the new year with fireworks, public events, and a festive atmosphere that stretches along the entire seafront. With mild winter temperatures compared to northern Europe, Alanya is also becoming an increasingly popular destination for travellers looking to escape the cold and still enjoy an outdoor celebration.

Getting to an Event?
The majority of public events in Alanya — including open-air concerts, sports competitions, cultural festivals, and national holiday celebrations — are completely free. This is one of the things that makes Alanya’s event scene so accessible for all types of travellers. Some ticketed events do exist, particularly for indoor performances or special international shows, but free events make up the bulk of the annual calendar.
- Water and sunscreen for daytime outdoor events — the Alanya sun is strong even in spring and autumn
- A light jacket for evening events, especially outside of peak summer when sea breezes can make it cooler after dark
- Cash for food stalls and vendors at festival grounds — not all accept card
- Comfortable shoes if you’re attending events near the castle or on uneven ground
- A portable phone charger — long events in the sun drain batteries fast
Most major events in Alanya take place along the seafront promenade, near Damlataş Beach, or in the city centre — all easily walkable from the main hotel areas. For events at the castle or further afield, local minibuses (dolmuş) are cheap and reliable. Taxis and ride apps are widely available for evening returns.
